The cost of living (outside of Jackson) is relatively low, which probably affects death rates in this age segment. This also means that drugs and violent crimes are less ubiquitous. As others have noted, the drug use in WY is pretty different from other parts of the country. Meth and alcohol are the main drug problems, where as other things probably aren’t profitable enough to bother with. I was in high school during the height of the prescription opioid epidemic and prescription pills WERE widespread and easily accessible. Most of the kids I knew had tried and had easy access to pills. I don’t really know what happened but it does seem like pills have mostly died down in the last few years and other opioids just never really made it into the state.
